Symptoms of Kidney Failure
We don’t think about our kidneys very much, even if they stop working effectively. The individual may remain unaware of the health issue. Recent figures show that about eight percent of Americans have kidney failure, but the vast majority of them don’t even know about it. To spot this illness at an early stage is the most significant challenge of battling kidney disease. The primary factor that makes early identification hard is the fact that many of the signs only appear at a later stage in the illness, and they can easily be mistaken for symptoms of another disease.
1. Insomnia
A possible link between kidney failure and difficulties settling down to sleep provides a prime example of how hard it is to make an early identification. Healthy kidneys have a crucial role in removing poisons from the blood supply. But failing kidneys are unable to do this effectively. Consequently, that person often has problems getting to sleep. Considering the diverse range of factors that disturb even a healthy person’s rest, insomnia doesn’t give them sufficient reason to suspect that their kidneys might not function well. More likely than not, they assume that stress at work or relationship worries is responsible for disturbing their sleep.
2. Fatigue
When failing kidneys cannot remove toxins from the blood, it can have an energy-draining effect. Once again, the connection between failing kidneys and fatigue are far from obvious. It’s hard to say for sure whether they’re feeling this way because they have been spending too much time trying to live in the fast lane, or if it’s the effects of some prescribed medicine? Unfortunately, the connection with kidney failure only becomes known later. One sign of healthy kidney functioning is the ability to have a good night’s sleep without having to visit the bathroom repeatedly. Individuals experiencing kidney failure are likely to find that discharging urine causes them pain. As with many signs of kidney failure, the need to go to the bathroom more often shouldn’t cause them to assume they have kidney failure suddenly. In particular, older men often find themselves in this situation as a natural result of the aging process.
3. Urinating blood
Terrible pains aside, urinating blood is without doubt one of the most disturbing signs of kidney failure. If someone experiences this they shouldn’t delay seeking medical assistance. However, they might reassure themselves that kidney failure is just one of several possible explanations. It’s quite common for a kidney stone to cause blood in the urine. In all events, nobody should attempt self-diagnosis. Whatever the nature of the health issue, early action significantly improves the chances of successful treatment.
4. Itchy Skin
Someone without medical knowledge wouldn’t suspect a link between kidney failure and dry and itchy skin. When the kidneys work correctly, they help ensure that a person has strong bones and enough minerals and nutrients in their bodies. Kidney failure disturbs the delicate relationship, and this can cause the skin to dry out and become very itchy. Hopefully, skin moisturizers and creams will solve the issue. But if it turns out that the cause is kidney failure much more advanced medical intervention is required.
